Lithgow Houdini
1966 ~ 1999
National Champion!

Small Grey Section B Welsh Pony Stallion

Glynmagic's Foundation Sire

When I purchased Houdini I promised Cheryl Wilson (Bristol Pony Farm) that my children would not ride him as he was 28 years old.   The following summer I was in my kitchen doing dishes and noticed Lara (who was 10 years old at the time) hauling the grooming box out to Houdini's pasture.  She worked endlessly on him while he continued to graze.  A while later I looked up from the sink to see Lara lying on Houdini's back, her head resting on his rear and her arms hanging off to the side.  She was asleep.  Meanwhile Houdini continued grazing and swishing his tail as if this was the normal everyday routine.  This is vintage Lithgow Houdini! He was the epitome of welsh ponies.  He embodied everything that makes Welsh perfect for children.  In 1994 Houdini worked his magic and produced our champion stallion Glynmagic Copper Comet.  Lithgow Houdini passed away in 1999.  His last foals were born in 2000.  We miss Houdini and are eternally grateful to him.

Janet Beck bought  Lithgow Houdini's sire Sylvia's Comet at the age of 4 and kept him until he died at the age of 39.  The Beck's adored  Sylvia's Comet who even though he was a stallion could be ridden by all their youngsters.  On the entertaining side, apparently Comet regularly jumped out of his 4' high pasture fencing and toured the local countryside.  One day he visited a neighbor whose pies were cooling on the window sill and he managed to sample each of the 3 pies.  To this day Mrs. Beck's grandchildren ride descendents of this wonderful stallion.  On an historical note Sylvia's Comet was imported in utero by Mollie Butler.
