Hello MCA, today I will try my best to walk you through the steps and processes in making a perimeter.
IMG 0.1 Perimeter
A perimeter, in short, is a huge hole in the world, usually used to limit the number of mob spawning or to reduce the server lag caused by random entities. This is a much more reliable way to concentrate mob spawning inside your mob farm than lighting up caves and fields, because there are no caves to begin with, thus presenting huge efficiency to your mob farm.
Note that this is an intermediate to large project so skills and patience is necessary. At least 15-20 hours must be invested solely on this project, not including dying and derps.
Step 1: Planning
The most important part in doing any project is the planning, and then the execution, in my case I want to make a perimeter for my slime farm, so I will have to make a 270x270 perimeter around it. You can make any sized perimeter you want, but requirements are present, and will be elaborated on later.
Step 2: Preparation
This part is essential to run the machines smoothly, without having to worry about issues that might arise. The design I will use is called World Eater from Ilmango, and it requires a series of concerns to operate.
IMG 2.1 Starter hole
You need at least two 15 wide holes across your soon-to-be perimeter and two 3 wide holes along it, however this can only be done with precise calculations beforehand. Ilmango's World Eater has 6 sections, 4 of those are pairs and can be calculated together. A pair has modules 6 blocks long, so your 15 wide hole must at least stretch as long as a multiple of 6. The second pair has modules 11 blocks long, so your 15 wide hole must also stretch at least as long as a multiple of 11. Please look at IMG 2.2 for reference.
IMG 2.2 Starter Hole - Measurements
This is not a tiny hole, it may be hundreds of thousands of blocks in volume, so another machine can be used.
IMG 2.3 TNT Duper
The image above shows a tnt-duper flying machine, which lets you blow up massive and long holes across an axis. The design was made by the SciCraft community, and can be found in the SciCraft discord along with similar designs. This particular design dupes TNT every block it shifts, and will dupe in both directions. You will need to remove any liquid that might crop up, either lava or water, which can be done using sand or sponges.
While doing this step, it may be a good time to decide what floor you want your perimeter to have. There are 3 different floor type you can choose from.
1. Bedrock Floor
This floor will prevent mob spawning as mobs don't spawn on bedrock, but the lava between the bedrock layers cannot be removed by the World Eater, and might be dangerous in some situations. Not to mention that walking on it is difficult.
2. Flooded
This is easier to walk across (assuming you have depth strider boots), but a greater result requiers a greater grind. You have to make sure that the floor is 100% flat if you want to fill the whole thing with water sources by simply adding them on the sides or diagonally. Unless you want to painstakingly place water across the entire floor. You can make the process easier by placing the tnt block from the TNT Duper at Y level 89
3. Custom Blocks
It might sound tedious to place >70k blocks above the highest bedrock, but there are machines which lets you place them while afk. I will not talk about this here as that is not the scope of this blog.
You may also treat yourself with some trashy blue rocks while clearing out the area, but it's not like diamonds are worth anything after 1.16..
Step 3: Building the world eater
This part is more or less the only grindy part of this process, because you need to make multiple iterations of the modules to fit your perimeter. Remember to build the whole machine above the highest block in your soon-to-be perimeter, otherwise some blocks may fail to blow up and cause issues.

Side Facts: How it works
Ilmango's World Eater sends TNT Duper flying machines which blows up one top layer of the area, and a flying machine below sweeps any liquid that remains from the explosion. This process is repeated until there is no blocks left in the area. Unfortunately, just like any perimeter-making machines, obsidian is its arch nemesis, because it does not blow up from TNT explosions, nor does it get pushed by pistons.
Step 4: Execution
Go ahead and activate the machine and watch as your creation destroys the world. And maybe afk a bit..
IMG 4.1 Running The World Eater
This step can take several hours. The first hour may only destroy the dirt and stone layers above, but you need to keep your eyes peeled for the rest, as obsidian may break some of the modules. And rebuilding them is not very fun.
Once you have completed all the steps above, then may I give you personal congratulations! You have removed at least 5 MILLION blocks! It wasn't the easiest project, but it will be worth your effort in the end. You can now decorate your perimeter to your heart's content. I made a floating island above my slime farm for an afk spot.
Pro-tips and Notes:
- When running the machines, it is best if the player does not die. Not only will you lose your items but the machines WILL break. You may get tempted to collect ores that are about to be presented with TNT, but note that you may lose the entirety of your inventory and also the hours invested into building the machine.
- Ilmango's World Eater is expandable, so you can make very large holes as long as your computer can handle. The longer the length of the machine, the further your render distance must be, but the distance the flying machines must travel does not hugely impact the required render distance as long as the player follows it to load the chunks.
- This project uses a lot of resources, so a witch farm, a slime farm, and a cobblestone generator is recommended.
- NEVER have render distance lower than the length of the machine while running as there is a high chance that you will unload a portion of the machine and break it.
- When working on the floor, using a potion of Invisibility is recommended as slimes WILL spawn despite being in broad daylight.
- Every "hole" mentioned here is a hole straight down to the highest bedrock.
- Building the World Eater is best using Litematica mod for fabric.
- Machines may not work for Bedrock or Console editions.
